THE former Iceland supermarket in Hereford city centre is to be taken over by a county charity in the New Year.

St Michael's Hospice has confirmed that it is set to move in by February.

The Eign Gate premises has been closed since September 2023 after Iceland opened its Food Warehouse outlet on the Salmon Retail Park in the city's Holmer Road.

It won't be the only new premises that St Michael's Hospice will be moving into it.

The charity will also be opening up a new warehouse at Whitestone Business Park after purchasing the IJL Brown furniture shop.

It comes after it was confirmed that its Holmer Road shop will be closing on January 6

Since opening in 2013, the Holmer Road Home and Living shop has been a key part of the Hospice’s retail portfolio, helping raise a significant amount of funds to enable St Michael’s to continue providing its palliative and end-of-life care across the community.

The Holmer Road shop will continue to operate as normal up to the Christmas holidays, closing on Saturday, December 23 and reopening on Wednesday, December 27.

After reopening, the shop will be holding a closing sale with discounts across all departments up until it permanently shuts.
