PLACES are being offered on a road risk course aimed at businesses in Herefordshire, where a third of all crashes are work related.

Business leaders in the county are being urged to help reduce road casualties by attending the event on managing occupational road risk at the Courtyard Theatre, Hereford, on Friday, November 3, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

There were 17 deaths, 130 serious injuries and 732 people slightly hurt in road crashes in the county last year and Herefordshire Council wants company directors and business managers responsible for health and safety, human resources, and fleet vehicles or staff who drive as part of their work, to attend.

"Managing occupational road risk is not driver training," said organiser Ann Mann, road safety officer with Herefordshire Council.

"It is about helping businesses drive profits up and make a contribution to the reduction of casualties on the roads of Herefordshire The responsibilities and consequences of bad driving on the environment and the impact on a company and individuals of health and safety at work laws will also be addressed.
