LEDBURY butchers DT Waller and Sons collected five golds and fiver silvers in the Mid West Excellence in British Meat Products competition.

The team, which included Matty and Nathan Waller, Robert Merrick, Chris Hewitt, Elaine Taylor and George Averill, presented a selection from their range of traditional and speciality sausages and pies.

The business won 2006 Gold Awards for: traditional pork sausage; traditional pork chipolata, entered by Robert Merrick, aged 22, in the young sausage maker category; speciality pork sausage, pork and cheese; speciality pork pie, pork and apple; ready meals, lamb hotpot.

Matty Waller, elder son of founder Dave Waller, paid tribute to the quality of Wallers' suppliers.

He said: "We rely on our local suppliers. Many have traded with us for many years, a tradition we aim to maintain, and we prepare their produce professionally on our premises, to deliver consistent quality, choice and value to our customers.

"Our Large White Landrace Cross Pork was supplied by Jamie Ward, from Bromsberrow, near Ledbury."
