A HEREFORD woman is returning home to become a city chapel's first minister since the 1930s.
Rev Lynne Davis, who grew up in Hereford, is coming back to the county to lead the congregation at Whitestone Baptist Chapel.
Ian Porter, secretary of the chapel, said: "The last time the chapel at Whitestone had a minister was in the 1930s, so it's with great joy that we can welcome Rev Lynne Davis."
Mr Porter said when the chapel was founded, it was used as a school, with lessons being taken by the minister, who lived in a small cottage at the back of the building.
Although the school ceased operating at the end of the 19th century, ministers still lived in the cottage until the 1930s.
"Now in 2006, we are about to start a new chapter in the life of the chapel," Mr Porter said. "Lynne is returning to Hereford, where she grew up, after pastorates in Bristol and Reading."
A special service to welcome her takes place on Saturday, November 4, at 3pm and everyone is welcome.
