FARMERS will be able to see for themselves the difference between using Xpro technology for disease control in wheat at Bayer CropScience’s annual trials demonstration in Herefordshire on June 28.
In what is proving a tricky season for farmers to control fungal diseases infecting their crops, growers will want to compare the performance of a range of new disease control products, known as SDHI fungicides.
These products, which include Bayer CropScience’s Aviator235Xpro (bixafen + prothioconazole), have been used widely for the first time in high disease pressure situations on farms this season.
Visitors to the event, being held with the kind permission of Mike Price, Monkhall Farm, Callow, will also be able to evaluate the value of using high and low cost disease control programmes across 30 different wheat varieties.
Both Mike Perry, from NIAB TAG, and ADAS’s Jonathan Blake will be on hand to discuss variety choice.
There will also be the chance to view the HGCA’s oilseed rape Recommended List trial, and discuss weed control strategies with Bayer CropScience agronomists, who will give advice on how to get the best out of weed control products.
They will also be happy to review why barley yellow dwarf virus control has been so difficult this season.
Refreshments and a hog roast will be available at the event, which qualifies for BASIS and NRoSO professional development points.
