HISTORY - The annual general meeting of Eardisley History Group is at the New Strand on Monday at 7.30pm. Details of the group's events are at eardisleyhistory.org.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - The next meeting of the Eardisley and District branch is today (Thursday) at 8pm in the New Strand.

Christine Johnstone from Kington First Responders will be the speaker.

LUNCH - The next Sunday lunch in the village hall is on February 12. Subsequent lunches will be on April 15, June 10, October 14 and December 16. Tickets will be on sale at the village stores.

CHURCHES - The preachers at the 11am services at the Methodist Chapel in February will be Rev P Chapman on 5th with Holy Communion, Dr Scott on 12th, Rev Chesworth on 19th and Mr Spence on 26th.

When junior and senior members of St Mary Magdalene Church and friends went carol singing around the village they raised £312 for the CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children.

CINEMA - There will be afternoon cinema with doors open at 2pm on Tuesday when the film will be The Way (12A), directed by Emilio Estevez. On February 10 the computer- animated action film Cars 2 (U), produced by Pixar, will be screened. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 6.30pm. On February 17 see the 2011 British espionage film, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (15), when doors open at 7pm for the 7.30pm start.

WI - When members meet on Thursday, February 9, the speaker will be David Hill on The Chapels of Herefordshire. The competition will be an ecclesiastical item and the best flower from the garden.
