ON September 23, year five pupils from Garway Primary School celebrated the start of their film-making careers by attending the world premier of their film at the Odeon Cinema, Hereford.

The children, accompanied by their class teacher, Mrs Eynon, and teaching assistant, Kate Nott, dressed up for the occasion and travelled in style, hiring a stretch-limousine, just like A list celebrities.

Pupils Laura Benjamin and Fraser Beaumont-Russell wrote about their experiences.

“The aim of our film was to show how special Garway Primary School is from our point of view. Once we had decided on our topic, both Fraser and I went for training. Our class teacher, Mrs Eynon, decided to hand the entire project to us and was just there for support. We decided (as there are only six year fives) to share all of the jobs. This was quite scary at times but we worked together well.”

“We all decided on the scenes to film, we organised and set up interviews and carried out the filming. We were in charge the whole time and Mrs Eynon was treated respectfully as a run around!”

“After all the filming, we were left with about 30 minutes of shots to edit into four minutes. This was a long and difficult challenge but again we succeeded. Mrs Lloyd-Williams (our headteacher) was relieved we had cut out all her um’s. We even managed to add music!”

“We thoroughly enjoyed being in control of the whole experience and would like to thank all who took part. Look out Steven Spielberg because here comes Garway!

At the cinema launch, pupils walked on the official red carpet before joining other schools inside for a private viewing, at the end of which they received an award for their efforts. The project began back in the autumn term as part of the county You Choose film project 2011.
