A CYCLIST has died following an accident at Staunton on Wye this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the A438 at around 1.50pm after reports of a cyclist being in collision with a Fiat Fiorino van

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was given first aid from witnesses and treated by paramedics, but he died in Herefrod County Hospital a short while later.

PC Richard Pearce, who is leading the investigation, said: "We have spoken to a number of people at the scene of the collision and would liek to thank those who did everything they could to help the cyclist.

"We are piecing together how this collision occurred and I would liek to speak to anyone who saw it take place and did not speak to the police.

"I would also be very interested in speaking to anyone who saw the Fiat van as it drove along the A438 before the collision or the cyclist as he rode from the Bredwardine direction towards Staunton on Wye via Tin Hill.

"He was riding a white Focus racing-type bike."
