KEITH St Peters Academy specialises in delivering hairdressing and beauty therapy training.

Our courses are designed to provide opportunities to gain basic and advanced technical skills in hairdressing and beauty therapy as well as contributing to the development of the salon managers and owners of the future.

Ashleigh Thompson is just 22 years old. She began her level two hairdressing apprenticeship at Keith St Peters Academy in 2005 while employed with Slix Hair Studio in Presteigne. Ashleigh started straight after leaving school.

With fantastic support and training every week in salon, alongside the training at Keith St Peters Academy, Ashleigh completed her level two successfully. Her employer supported her with training sessions on models, a colouring course, trips to Salon International and a lot of encouragement.

Ashleigh was working a full column by the beginning of her level three training in 2007, finished her course early due to her personal dedication, motivation and commitment to her career and won Student of the Year in 2008.

Just recently Ashleigh has opened her own salon, Hairzone Hair Studio in Newbridge-on-Wye.

She has also taken on a new apprentice, as she understands first hand the benefits of apprenticeships, both personally and to her business.

“Taking on an apprentice shows how people can build up their skills,” she said.

“I am giving something back by giving someone else a job. I want to help her to develop skills. I enjoyed my training so much and found it was a good way of learning.

“I was able to gradually build confidence in working with the public and didn’t feel pushed into the ‘big wide world’. I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given, which have enabled me to get this far.”
