MOTT The Hoople’s Verden Allen and his new band Soft Ground will make a special ‘hometown’ appearance at The Lads’ Club in Hereford on Saturday, June 25.
It’s a a venue specially chosen by Verden for its historic link to Mott the Hoople’s beginnings – it was the first place the band rehearsed and honed the unique sound immortalised in such classics as Roll Away The Stone, All the Young Dudes and Rock ’n’ Roll Queen.
With Soft Ground, Allen promises to dig deep into his recording career with some of the old Mott classics and newer material from his solo albums. This is also the first gig with former Tigertailz drummer Matt Blakout behind the kit. “Expect a real back to basics frenetic rock and roll sound reminiscent of the early Mott,” says Matt.
The band have recently recorded a two day live studio session which will be available as a DVD/CD package to be released later this year.
