SUNDAY, December 19 would have been Jack McKenzie’s 19th birthday, and friends and family will be marking the occasion with the kind of party he would have loved the best – a night at The Jailhouse.
Jack, pictured, who died in a road accident near Peterchurch in September “could create a party wherever he was”, said mum Fiona.
Sam Pogson, one of Jack’s oldest friends who, with his team, is organising the event, is determined the night as a celebration of his friend’s life and a successful fundraiser for two road safety charities, Brake and Road Peace.
“We first talked about putting on a night as we were going into the memorial service for Jack at the Sixth Form College,” says Sam.
“Because we knew how much Jack loved it at The Jailhouse, and when we talked to his brother Tom we found he’d had exactly the same idea, and he asked if we’d organise it.”
“The whole point of doing this,” says Sam, “is to raise awareness for road safety. Jack was my oldest mate, and this felt like the right thing to do.”
Roksonix and Diesel are at The Jailhouse on Sunday, December 19 from 9pm to 3am.
Admission is £6.
