THIS year marks the 20th anniversary of Hereford Photography Festival, the longest running annual photography festival in the UK.

Central to the festival will be Twenty, a retrospective exhibition of works by world-renowned photographers who have exhibited at HPF during the past 20 years.

Many of these featured were just setting out when they first showed at the festival, and highlights include images from Rankin’s visit to the Congo with Oxfam in 2009, and a fascinating series of works by American photographer KayLynn Deveny exploring ‘Cinderella’ homes in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Hereford Photography Festival was started by local photographer Dave West and one-time Rolling Stone photographer Al Vandenbert who both settled in Hereford in the 1980s and work by both will be on display in Twenty.

Other highlights of the festival include [Open Here], this year’s open submission exhibition which offers the unique prize of a £2,000 socially engaged commission for next year’s festival, an exhibition entitled The Hereford, featuring local breeders and their cattle photographed by Tessa Bunney, in which the works will be displayed around the city.

Focus Here celebrates the IBSA World Blind Football Championship held earlier this year in Hereford, with work from 20 partially sighted students from the RNCB who photographed members of the England squad.

Images of the changing face of Hereford city centre can be seen in a display of photographs by Stuart Whipps focusing on the legacy of Hereford’s last major redevelopment in 1968.
