NURSES and patients linked up with four consultants from Hereford County Hospital on the Wye Valley Walk to raise money to help beat blindness.
They want to make £100,000 to buy equipment for the Victoria Eye unit at the hospital to buy updated equipment needed to diagnose and treat people in danger of losing their sight from a condition known as age-related macular degeneration.
Consultants Simon Madge, John Deutsch, Rob Doran and Alaric Smith led two groups of walkers from Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye.
And despite the heat and the early start, both groups managed to meet at the Old Wye Bridge in Hereford.
So far the event has raised more than £5,500 and money is still coming in.
To donate, cheques made payable to the Victoria Charity Fund can be sent to: Sister Yvette Pitchforth, Walk for Sight, Victoria Eye Unit, Hereford Hospitals NHS Trust, Union Walk, Hereford HR1 2ER.
