AN exhibition of work by renowned artist Cecily Sash can be seen at new Leominster Gallery, Art on the Square, until Saturday, July 24.

For 20 years, until 1974 when she moved to England, Cecily was a lecturer in Design in the Fine Arts department at the University of Witwatersrand. “I left South Africa,” she explains, “because I couldn’t stand apartheid any more. I had the police coming in and taking books, thinking I might have been a communist.

One lived in fear of doing something wrong. I was quite afraid that I might be stopped before I left.”

Cecily’s work is exhibited alongside sculpture by Ann Campbell.
