At the turf-cutting to mark the start of building work at the site of the new Hereford Livestock Market on Roman Road, the leader of Herefordshire Council, Councillor Roger Phillips receives a gift to mark the occasion from Neal Stephens, managing director of Willmott Dixon. Construction work began on the £7 million scheme on Friday after 10 years of consultation and when complete next spring the 48-acre site will be capable of holding 8,000 sheep and 500 cattle with parking for 300 cars and 44 articulated lorries.
