Waterloo Reserves 1 Presteigne 4

A STRONG second-half showing moved Presteigne back to second place in the Spar Mid Wales League.

After a goalless first half which produced little in the way of excitement other than efforts from Dylan Barrington and Kieran Powis which flew just wide, the visitors took the lead at the start of the second period.

Chris Jones received a pass from Steve Morgan and beat a defender before chipping the ball over the home goalkeeper.

Jones then returned the favour for Morgan who slipped home the second.

Substitute Shaun Prince then profited from some good work by Joel Layton and Phil Ruell to score twice more before Waterloo grabbed a consolation goal late in the game.

On Monday, holders Presteigne failed in their bid to retain the Radnorshire Cup when they lost 5-4 on penalties after the sides were deadlocked at 1-1 after extra-time.

In a lack-lustre match, Knighton's goal came from the penalty spot - their only shot on goal in the 120 minutes - and Presteigne replied with an own goal.

In the shoot-out, the only player to fail from the spot was Presteigne's regular penalty-taker Adie Bennett who saw his effort saved.
