A THREE-WAY tie required a countback to decide the winner of the Harland Bowl at Herefordshire GC.

Terry Neate, Ben Synnock and Wally Harding all finished on plus six in the bogey competition and the Harland Bowl - for low handicappers - went to Neate, with Synnock runner-up.

The Pleasance & Harper Cup for high handicappers was won by WJ Stephens, with plus four, from Martin Brain, plus three, and Andy Morrison, plus two.

n Ross-on-Wye's A team gained their third successive win when they convincingly beat visiting Long Ashton 5-0 in the first round of the Gloucestershire President's Foursomes Cup.

James Morgan and Andy Stephens, Gwynne Morgan and Duncan Sayce, and Steve Wallbank and David Griffiths all won 3/2, while Paul Rivett and Mike Cooper won 3/1, and Richard Kirk and Andy Crispe, 5/3.

The C team gained a 6-0 home win over Droitwich Spa in a friendly.

Ross Seniors suffered a surprise 6-2 defeat in their opening friendly of the season at Lilleybrook but then followed up with a 5-2 home win over Cotswold Hills.

n Ed Sargeant was a clear winner of Belmont's stableford but a countback was needed for the next three places.

n South Herefordshire's Bob Baldwin will be partnering the club's PGA professional Leo Tarrant in a regional final of the Lombard Trophy - Europe's biggest pro-am competition, at Machynys Peninsula GC on May 11 when a five-day trip to Portugal is at stake.

Baldwin, a 14-handicapper, won the chance to partner Tarrant in the better-ball medal by winning the qualifying competition at South Herefordshire with 36 points.

n The WGU team qualifier at Summerhill was won by Rhodri Thomas, 44 points, Evan Illings-worth, 42, Andrew Tanswell, 42, and Andy Evans, 41.

Perry Hughes won the Queen Mother's Cup qualifier, a competition which attracted 37 entries and raised £148 for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity.
