WELLINGTON remain on target for a top-six finish in the West Midlands League Premier Division after a 2-0 win over Wednesfield last Saturday.

Wellington might have taken the lead inside the first 25 seconds when Mark Cross proved a centre for Eddie Murphy who hesitated with the goal gaping and, in the end, fired wide.

Wellington continued to have the better of play but failed to create any clear-cut openings before taking the lead with a goal out of the blue on 26 minutes when Andy Price let fly from 30 yards with an unstoppable shot which screamed into the net.

After the break, the experienced Wednesfield midfield began to get the better of possession without being able to translate this into scoring chances.

In the 68th minute, Wellington put the result beyond doubt when substitute Will Perkins sent in a free-kick which Tom Herbert returned across the box for Mark Davies to slide home.

Bromyard Town continued to keep clear of danger at the foot of the table when they beat mid-table Goodrich 3-0 away from home.

Carl Fairhurst opened the scoring with Alex Taffe adding a second shortly afterwards. The pick of the goals came from James Grosvenor who thundered home a powerful shot from 30 yards.

Ledbury Town slipped further into trouble when they went down to a 2-1 defeat at relegation rivals Smethwick.

Lee Hooper put Ledbury ahead but Ricki Carter levelled the scores from the penalty spot with an hour played.

With a draw looking likely, Charbit Singh pounced seven minutes from time to slam home the winner.

Smethwick's win, while damaging Ledbury's prospects, also did few favours to Kington Town who now sit in the division's bottom two after picking up two draws over the Easter weekend.

On Monday, Kington picked up a point from a goalless draw at home to Brierley & Hagley and, on Saturday, they did well to gain a 1-1 away draw with high-flying Gornal.

After a goalless first half, the home side, despite being reduced to 10 men, took the lead with a header from a corner after 70 minutes.

But Kington hit back and equalised when Paul Allam and Duncan Morgan paved the way for James Williams to shoot home after holding off the attentions of two defenders.

In Division 1, Hinton's erratic form continued when they went down to a 2-1 home defeat by Ashbourne.

After Jodie Dawe had opened the scoring on 15 minutes, Hinton had plenty of opportunities to extend their lead but instead it was the visitors who found the net, touching home a free-kick.

Andy Mowen missed a great chance to restore the lead just before the interval and Hinton were made to pay when an Ashbourne forward raced through to score the winner, a minute from time.
