ONLY 38 horses went to post to contest the seven races at the Easter Tuesday Croome and West Warwickshire point to point meeting due to the ground firming up at Upton-on-Severn.

But jockey Mark Wall had something to celebrate as he scored a double on Clever Dickie and Snitton Salvo.

Partnering Clever Dickie in the seven-runner Restricted Open, Wall cleverly kicked on from the field early on the final circuit to steal a precious lead.

Hard though the pursuing duo of Fencethegap and One Dawn tried, Wall and his mount still had two lengths to spare at the finish.

The double was completed later in the day as Wall partnered Snitton Salvo to victory in the older horse Maiden race when the only other finisher was the odds-on favourite Coddington Susie.

This tally doubled Wall's seasonal winners.

The younger horse Maiden race went to the Nick Williams ridden Amazing Proposal who stormed to an impressive 10-length win over runner-up Mister Bey.

Part owner and Kings Caple trainer Peter Warner explained that the winner had benefited from the use of an equine pool at neighbouring trainer Venetia Williams' yard to relieve sore shins.
