HEREFORD BC's Shaun Jones is on the brink of international honours after being picked for an England Junior international trial.

Jones will take part in two matches in which the red team will play against the white team at Blaby Bowling Club in Leicestershire on May 27.

Jones will be a member of the white team alongside Robert Drew (Cambridgeshire), Paul Northam (Durham) and skip Andrew Knapper (Berkshire).

At the end of the day's bowling, a squad of 32 will be announced which will join a squad day at Daventry Town BC on July 23. A squad will then be announced that will play in the British Isles Bowls Council Junior Home International Series at Royal Leamington Spa on the weekend of September 9/10.

Members of St Martin's Bowling Club begin the countdown to the new season in earnest on Sunday when they hold a meeting at 2.30pm at Hinton Community Centre in Ross Road.

The meeting, which is open to new members and anyone interested in joining the club, will hear the likely starting date for bowling - probably at the beginning of May - at the club's new green and clubhouse.

Final touches are now being made to the new facilities, which are situated at the rear of the new ASDA development.

"The green, which was laid just before Christmas, looks in super condition and club members are eager to start," said the club's development sub-committee secretary Frank Harwood.
