Ledbury Town suffered a 8-1 defeat at mid-table Shawbury United on Saturday in the West Midlands premier division.

Town chairman Chris Stevens said although the scoreline looked poor, the New Street team had actually played reasonably well.

He said: "It was just one of those days, they virtually had eight shots and scored eight goals. It was not as bad as it looks and although it is still going to be difficult, I still think we will avoid relegation."

Ledbury's solitary goalscorer was Nicky Welch.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Ledbury Town are at home to eighth-placed Goodrich (2.45pm) and then they play the return match at Goodrich on Wednesday (April 12).

Ledbury are still anchored next to bottom of the league table but have two games in hand on Kington Town, who are one place above and three points clear.
