The fate of the Master's House and library will be discussed at Ledbury and District Society's annual meeting.

The event is at the Burgage Hall on Friday, April 21, at 7.30pm.

It is hoped to have formal business over by 8pm, ready for a presentation to the Master's House situation by Herefordshire councillor Roy Stockton.

The council held talks with English Heritage over plans to convert the Grade II-listed building, initially to house the library.

Following a survey of the medieval building, the council believes it will not now be possible to remove walls to create the necessary open space for the library.

The walls, many of them panelled, date from medieval to Victorian times.

However, English Heritage say there is still room for negotiation. Spokesman Helen Bowman said: "English Heritage has offered pre-application advice to Herefordshire Council, regarding the potential re-use of the Master's House. We have not yet received any formal applications.

"English Heritage would welcome formal discussions with interested parties on securing a future for the building."
