Heath Hayes 3

Bromyard Town 2

FIELDING a weakened team, Bromyard paid the price when they just lost out in a game which they could have won, slipping ever closer to the relegation zone in the competitive West Midlands League Premier Division.

The visitors more than held their own in the first half an hour and, with a little bit of luck and steadier finishing, could well have opened the scoring.

However, two elementary defensive errors, an all too familiar happening in recent games, cost them dear as the hosts took full advantage to net twice in quick succession to take a two-goal interval lead.

Within a minute of the restart, Andy Cartwright raised Bromyard hopes with a crisp finish to reduce arrears, but once again this was negated by another defensive lapse which saw Heath Hayes restore the two-goal advantage.

To their credit, the youthful Bromyard team did not drop their heads and totally dominated the final quarter. Craig Manns headed home a Mark Atkinson cross to close the gap, but in spite of sustained pressure they could not find an equaliser that would have given them a deserved share of the points.
