ONE of the finest follies in Herefordshire and a part of Ross-on-Wye's picture postcard skyline for well over 150 years could be turned into a dream home.

Ambitious plans to turn the Gazebo Tower into a three-storey property complete with a sunken spa bath, feature fireplace and ensuite bedroom were submitted this week.

Architect Tony David said the tower, which was built on the Royal Parade in 1833 as a viewing point, would be completely transformed internally while outlining the planning application.

The tower is currently little more than an empty shell with ladders giving access to the different levels.

But if councillors approve the scheme, a helical spiral staircase will link the dining room and kitchen on the ground floor to the lounge on the first floor and a bedroom and bathroom on the second floor.

A final staircase up to the flat roof will offer breathtaking views across the horseshoe bend of the River Wye.

External alterations to the listed building will be minimal, but permission is being sought for the reconstruction of external access steps to the front door.
