UWA 0 Presteigne 1
PRESTEIGNE held on to second place in the Spar Mid Wales League with an impressive win at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth.
Joel Layton grabbed the decisive goal after just 10 minutes and a strong defensive showing ensured that the border club held on for their win.
The goal came when Shaun Prince produced a good run and cross which enabled Layton to round a defender and fire into the net.
Shortly afterwards, Chris Jones was unlucky not to add a second with a tremendous run and shot.
Prince came close to adding a second shortly after the break but it was certainly not all one-way traffic as the students brought the best out of Scott Hodgetts in the Presteigne goal on a couple of occasions.
Outstanding work by the defensive centre-back pairing of Dylan Barrington and Wes Evans helped to ensure the Presteigne clean sheet and good efforts by Daniel Rocke and Chris Jones almost brought a second goal for the visitors as time ran out.
