Market Drayton 3
Ledbury Town 1
LEDBURY gave a good account of themselves but could not match the pace and power of the runaway leaders of the West Midlands League who eased into the second round of the Premier Division Cup.
Drayton attacked from the off but Ledbury held firm until the 25th minute when slack defending conceded a soft opening goal. The visitors almost levelled, however, when new signing Stuart Cook was unlucky to see his shot rebound from a post.
After the break Drayton continued to press and forced several corners in quick succession. Ledbury defended well but eventually conceded a second goal from a flashing header.
Again Ledbury made a spirited attempt to get back but Lee Hooper headed a Neil Gardiner cross over the top when well placed.
Drayton persisted and put the result beyond doubt when goalkeeper Jamie Hales, who had made several fine saves, failed to collect a cross and gifted the hosts a third goal.
Mark Brookes gave the final scoreline some respectability when he outjumped the defence to head home a consolation goal in the final minute.
