Shawbury United 3 Wellington 2

WELLINGTON were totally outplayed in their first half of their West Midlands League Premier Division clash at Shawbury but came back strongly after the break without being able to claim a point.

Shawbury dominated from the start and played with pace and skill. They took the lead in the 14th minute with an outstanding goal when a break down the right and a deep cross was met on the volley by Sam Ellis to give stand-in goalkeeper James Morgan no chance.

The teenager then kept Wellington in the game with a couple of excellent point-blank saves but could do little to stop a second goal by Kevin McGarvey.

Wellington looked a different side after the break with Eddie Wells and Marcus Jones combining to set up a goal for skipper Peter Wallace. The visitors kept up the pressure but they were rocked back when Shawbury broke to regain a two-goal advantage.

Undaunted, the visitors hit back and substitute Glen Roberts crossed from the right for Andy Price to chest down and fire home.

Wellington kept up the pressure but the home defence frustrated all efforts to find an equaliser.
