WHEELCHAIR tennis player Janet McMorran (pictured above), who has won the Herefordshire Sports Council Disabled Sports Personality award, has proved that experience can triumph over youth after yet another excellent season.

The Bromyard-based 55-year-old regained the British National title and is still the British number one.

Internationally, her biggest success in 2005 has come in doubles competition when, in partnership with Lucy Shuker from Somerset, she won doubles events at the Sardinia Open and in competitions in Girona, Prague and on the Costa Brava. McMorran and Shuker also qualified for the Doubles Masters event in which the British pairing were placed third.

She was recently presented with the British Wheelchair Sports Association's Lifetime Achievement award.

Hereford Acoustic Shooting Club's Maurice Perry, who picked up a highly commended award in this category, is also the British number one in his sport and has represented Great Britain.

He won the British Championships with a record equalling score of 599 out of 600 and in 10 league matches, he won all 10 with a score of 1,000 points out of 1,000.
