IF a Herefordshire football team made the semi-finals of the FA Cup, it would have made national headlines but the achievement of Hereford Whitecross Club's squash team in making the last four of the SRA National Club Knockout Cup was comparable in their sport.

Their immense effort in reaching the semi-finals weekend in Nottingham in May has been recognised with the Herefordshire Sports Council's Senior Team of the Year award.

Whitecross' team of Matt Crowley, Andrew Watts, Jethro Binns, Sam Millar and Lewys Hurst won through five rounds against premier clubs from across the country to reach the finals weekend.

Their bid for national glory came to an end when, hampered by an injury to Hurst, they were knocked out in their semi-final by 2003 winners Pontefract.

Pegasus Ladies' achievement in reaching the third round of the Women's FA Cup earned them a highly commended award in this category.

Pegasus won the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Women's county cup and finished second in the West Midland Women's Regional League Division 1 South in the 2004-5 season.
