A SEASON of success over all age groups has helped Hereford Rowing Club to be named Herefordshire Sports Council's Club of the Year.

Senior crews competed at major events at Nottingham, London and Henley where the men's coxed four reached the quarter-finals of their event.

The club's veterans have won a clutch of gold and silver medals at major championships during the last 12 months while its well-run junior section continues to grow.

Juniors are introduced to the club via Project Oarsome and then move into junior squads where they receive help from coaches all of whom have been CRB checked. Thirty new juniors joined the club in 2005.

The club's popular annual regatta is supported by 30 clubs from across the country while, locally, Hereford Rowing Club plays host to a number of other sporting organisation including Wye Valley Runners, Hereford Kayak Club, Hereford and District Anglers Association and Hereford Wheelers.

Hereford Lads Club and Community Club have been highly commended in this section.

The club field 13 junior boys' football teams as well as five girls and two teens' sides. All club coaches are involved in attaining FA and first aid qualifications and are all CRB checked.

The club is actively involved in school partnerships.
