Hereford United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Nationwide Conference to nine matches when fellow promotion-chasers Halifax Town visit Edgar Street on Saturday.

The Bulls recently eliminated the Yorkshire side from the FA Trophy but the Shaymen won this season's first league clash between the sides and were also successful on their last visit to Edgar Street.

"We lost 3-2 here to them last season," recalled skipper Tamika Mkandawire. "They are an organised side so it will not be an easy game.

"Hopefully we will get something from it - we have the psychological advantage from being the only Conference side to win at The Shay this season."

Hereford have some injury doubts to resolve before boss Graham Turner can finalise his side.

"Simon Travis saw a specialist about his back problem on Monday and that has revealed a ligament strain," he said. "But he can join in training later this week and may be available.

"Jamie Pitman's scan has shown extensive ligament damage to his knee and he will be out for five or six weeks while Guy Ipoua is still doubtful with a calf injury."

Midfielder Stacy Coldicott is now back in full training after being sidelined for five months with a back complaint but is unlikely to be involved this weekend.

"We have arranged our Herefordshire Senior Cup semi-final at Kington Town for next Tuesday, February 14, so he would get a chance to play up there," said Turner.

"But we are also looking at the possibility of letting him go out on loan for a month when he would get four full games."

Turner is looking forward to returning to Conference action after last week's FA Trophy disappointment against Grays Athletic.

"Halifax are a decent side," he said. "Grays last week was a hiccup and the changes we made to the side didn't help but now we are looking forward to focussing on the league."

After Hereford's Trophy exit last Saturday, Conference leaders Accrington Stanley followed them out of the competition on Tuesday night when they were beaten in a penalty shoot-out by Worksop Town of the Conference North.

Grays have a home tie in the quarter-finals against Dagen-ham & Redbridge while promotion rivals Exeter are also at home against Salisbury City.

l Former Hereford boss Ian Bowyer has left his position as assistant manager at Milton Keynes Dons after the League 1 side's recent poor run, while it has emerged that Barnet midfielder Dwane Lee rejected a loan move to Edgar Street during the transfer window.
