ALLPAY.whitecross booked their place in the quarter-finals of the National Squash Club Championships with a 3-2 home win over Kenilworth.
Higher-graded Whitecross were forced to work hard for their second-round victory in front of about 130 spectators at their Sollars Close headquarters last Wednesday.
Captain Sam Miller (3-0), Joey Barrington (3-0) and Matt Crowley (3-1) helped to seal the important victory for the Hereford side.
Miller, who is also club chairman, said: "We were always going to win at positions one and two and we knew that Kenilworth would make it tough for us down the order.
"We are very pleased with the win. It really would have been a shock had Kenilworth beaten us."
The Hereford-based team had opened their account in this season's national club championships with a 5-0 home win over Barnt Green in the first round.
They will be aiming to at least repeat last year's success when they reached the semi-finals before being humbled 5-0 by a strong Pontefract team.
