Hereford United 2 Worcester City 1
HEREFORD booked a place in third preliminary round of the FA Youth Cup with a battling midweek victory over their rivals at Edgar Street.
The Bulls' hard-fought win was tarnished by the late dismissal of Chris Mortlock for a second bookable offence.
Worcester dominated the opening period but United opened the scoring against the run of play in the 35th minute, Adam Kite heading in an excellent cross from Mortlock.
The second half was a much closer affair and United doubled their advantage in the 55th minute through Andrew Williams, who headed in Simon Gwilliam's deep free kick.
Williams struck the upright with 10 minutes remaining but Worcester ensured an anxious few moments for the home side when they reduced the deficit in the 85th minute.
United travel to Bristol-based Bitton in the next round on Wednesday, October 1.
