PARENTS with children attending Hereford-shire's church schools have been given an extra week to put forward their views on the possible changes to the faith school bus service.

The denominational transport scheme, which grants students free and subsidised buses to faith schools, is under review after the equality of the discretionary policy was questioned.

The public was originally given until tomorrow (Friday) to submit their responses, but the deadline has been extended for an extra week to allow more consultation.

On Tuesday night, parents crammed into the Town Hall to debate the controversial subject.

Ann-Marie Impey, one of the meeting organisers, said around 300 people were present to explain why the subsidised bus service should remain.

"The strength of feeling of the parents and children at this meeting cannot have been missed by the council representatives," she said. "We wait to see whether they will act on what they heard, but we will not be resting on our laurels."

Herefordshire Council is expected to make a decision on June 23.
