OLD cars are a valuable commodity, not a problem. There shouldn't be a car dumping epidemic at all (Hereford Times, July 14), because scrap yards will remove old vehicles free of charge or pay £30-£40 delivered to their premises.

Maybe the people who dump them haven't read the advert for old scrap cars or perhaps they are too idle to deliver them?

If people cannot be bothered to be paid £30-£40 per car, then they are too well off and perhaps a charity could collect the old vehicles and sell them to raise funds?

Either way cars are just the same as any other scrap, in that they are worth good money and should be sold for recycling, not dumped.

Maybe the local council could organise a volunteer service to collect cars and give the money raised to a good cause?

In Telford, firms compete to obtain scrap cars, why not Hereford?
