I TRAVELLED from Hereford to Cambridge via Birmingham on Friday, June 24. The train from Birmingham to Cambridge arrived one-and-a-half-hours late. It was bound for Stanstead Airport but terminated at Cambridge (a thunderstorm en route was cited as a cause for delay).

I returned to Hereford on Sunday, June 26. I had been advised to travel via London, as the journey via Birmingham would involve some bus travel.

Fortunately, I arrived in very good time for my train. I inquired which platform I needed and was told that there was no train but that a bus was going to Royston, and if I hurried, I could catch it.

I am 75 and had quite a heavy case. The bus left 10 minutes before the expected departure of my train.

At Royston, I got off the bus, had to go over a footbridge and got on a train to King's Cross. My original plan was to arrive by train at King's Cross, then take a taxi to Paddington for my train to Hereford.

Unfortunately I missed my connection as the bus journey and the train from Royston arriving 25 minutes late meant I had to wait for another train to Hereford. So my eventual arrival was also one and a half-hours late!

I wrote immediately to Central Trains. I had a letter of apology but no rail travel vouchers to compensate for unduly long journeys on both days.

I have forwarded their reply to Paul Keetch, who told me in a previous correspondence that he too had problems with delays when travelling up for Question Time.

MRS CHRISTINE WILLIAMS,
