ON June 14 members visited The Land of Lost Content Museum and The Secret Hills.

On June 21, Bernard Applebee gave a talk on the beginning of the Ambulance service in Herefordshire, set up in 1934 as a voluntary service, with St John's Ambulance and Red Cross personnel and funded by local subscription.

The vote of thanks was given by Cynthia Turner and Betty Cross won the competition for the Strawberry Fair Hat.

Despite the occasional showers of rain the strawberry evening held at Jean Croshaw's house was a great success. Friends from the WI and other guilds came to support us, raising a good sum for charity.

Val Twigg, with support from Joan Garnett, gave a report on the National Council meeting held in Cardiff last month.

The federation banner which had been carried by Doreen Foster was displayed. Six members had gone from Tupsley.

An emergency mandate had been passed at the conference asking the Government to reconsider proposed cuts in funding for further education which will affect many retired people.

A letter is to be sent to our MP regarding this legislation.

The meeting ended on a humorous note with an original competition of Calendar Boys.
