PARISH COUNCIL - At the Annual meeting held on Thursday, July 21 Mr Ron Mills (Kenchester) was elected chairman and Mrs Penny Redshaw (Byford) elected vice-chairman. In his Chairman's Annual Report Mr Mills highlighted the 10 Village Plan promises achieved during the last year and gave praise and thanks to the Editor of the Newsletter and the chairman of the Newbridge Community Centre for their contributions.

Immediately after the Annual Meeting a Parish Council meeting took place and Village Notice boards were discussed but with no decision made owing to lack of information. Under Planning Applications no objections were raised for a proposed conservatory to the side of property known as 'Bradworthy' in Swainshill or for the conversion of the old pumping station at Byford to a residential dwelling or for the erection of two houses on land adjacent to 'Fourth Milestone House' in Swainshill. Successful planning applications were for the conversion of a garage into bedrooms and alteration to garage roof at 'The Willows', 5 Canon Rise, Bishopstone and a proposed new detached dwelling on land adjoining 'The Boundary' in Swainshill and a proposed new grain store at Marsh Court Farm, Bridge Sollers. Withdrawn were two applications; a proposed barn conversion to form six dwellings at Shetton Farm and a proposed replacement dwelling at 'Little Holme' Kenchester. British Telecomm. have removed the payphone at Kenchester and want to remove those at Bridge Sollers and Byford. Bishopstone payphone is not threatened at this moment. The Council have responded to try to save their removal.
