HEREFORDSHIRE Council wants to find how it can persuade more young people to stay in the county.

The authority is concerned that too many people in the 18-35 age group are moving away to work in other parts of the country.

It is to undertake a review of issues including employment, housing and the cost of housing, higher education and skills training, leisure and culture. These issues, as well as the image of the county, are considered to be some of the main reasons that people move away.

As well as questioning young people, the consultation, by the council's community services scrutiny committee, will also seek information from people that have moved away.

"Herefordshire is a beautiful county with lots to offer,"said committee chairman Chris Chappell. "We need to retain and attract young people to ensure that the economy and communities remain vital and vibrant."
