Leominster ladies' tennis side make their debut in the newly formatted National Club League this Sunday when they play host to Edgbaston Priory in the West Midlands Division.

This season is the first time that the league has done away with Premier and Regional divisions in favour of a national structure, which is split into eight sections.

The top two sides from each group will play-off in July and there is £100,000 of prize money available over the whole competition.

Each match will consist of four singles and two doubles games and Leominster will face opposition across the region, from Newmarket 2nd, of Suffolk, to Bridg-north in Shropshire.

l Tennis 2000 is the name of a new scheme launched by Leominster Tennis Club in an effort to spot potential stars of the future at a young age.

The club aim to do this by promoting the sport to starters and holding short tennis sessions and it begins with a 'Talent ID' day on May 6 from 10am-12pm.

All children aged between four and 10 are invited to come along and try their hand, with the event set for a regular Saturday morning slot.

The Leominster club is one of the best equipped in the county and boasts four outdoor floodlit courts, plus two indoor courts, which allow play whatever the weather.

They already run three open tournaments each year - an indoor competition, an outdoor ratings event and a junior tournament, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
