Leighton Buzzard 12 pts Luctonians 31

LUCTONIANS wrapped up their league season in style by recording their ninth successive league victory to finish third in Midlands 2.

Playing with the slope in the first-half, Luctonians had the better of the opening exchanges.

After 15 minutes, when the home side were beginning to come more into the game, Will Crawforth intercepted a pass just outside his own 25 metre line and sprinted 70 metres to score under the posts. Gareth Lewis added the conversion.

Minutes later, after some fine forward play, prop Steve Jaques forced his way over.

The home side started the second-half strongly but were unable to break through the Luctonians defence. The visitors began to create some try scoring opportunities but failed to make the vital breakthrough.

Much against the run of play Leighton Buzzard reduced arrears when some loose Luctonians play allowed them to score a try which they converted.

Again Luctonians hit back immediately when, following a lineout, a slick handling movement sent winger Lee Coton clear to score and Lewis added the conversion.

Luctonians brought on their three replacements and one of them, full-back Sam McGowan, burst through the centre. He was held up just short of the line but managed to pass the ball to Lewis who raced over for a try.

In a final flourish the home side tried desperately to break down the Luctonians defence, but to no avail.

l Luctonians 3rd lost 31-12 away to Upton 2nd. Tries were scored by Jamie Fletcher and Jamie Hughes, who also kicked a conversion.

The 4th XV beat Shrewsbury 3rd 24-0 away with tries from Ronnie Painter, Adi Regan, Dean Sankey and James Hood, who also landed two conversions.

Luctonians Colts beat Crumlin Colts 20-12.

Luctonians 2nd beat Clee Hill 18-5 in the semi-final of the Floodlight Cup. Phil Davies and Sam McGowan scored tries and Jonathan Hern kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Luctonians are without a fixture this week but will host a sevens competition on Saturday, April 22.
