A ROSS-ON-WYE woman is planning to walk the Inca trail in Peru - in spite of breaking both legs 15 years ago.

Linda Passey, 44, will attempt to trek the 33km trail to raise funds for The Children's Society.

She begins her four-day trek, which will pass at heights of 4,000m above sea level, on May 26 with 70 other fund-raisers.

"It seems crazy, but I am more determined to do this sort of thing since I broke my legs in a car accident," said Linda, who is an orthoptist based at Hereford's Victoria Eye Hospital and tests schoolchildren's eyesight. Her bravery is supported by Herefordshire schools, which have raised funds to enable the trip.

"Pupils at Fownhope Primary School raised £126 at their Christmas play. I was interviewed by the children and I told them about what I will be doing," said Linda.

Her minimum target was £2,250, but has raised £3,000 with the help of schoolchildren.

As Fownhope primary raised the most money, Linda presented the pupils with a computer scanner during their assembly on Monday morning.
