AN investigation into an alleged election fiasco in Knighton has re-inforced the original result.
Angus Gilmour was elected on to the town council after polling 107 votes to the 72 awarded to his rival Janice Harris.
But a recount next morning allegedly revealed that Mrs Harris had actually won by 94 votes to 88.
However, returning officer Jacky Tongue has concluded that the result should remain unchanged.
"Any actions following the announcement (of the result) were not part of official proceedings and could not affect the result," she said.
She added that it was now open to the candidates to challenge the decision by petitioning the High Court to set up an election court to consider the situation.
