Abingdon United 3 Pegasus Juniors 0

GOALKEEPER Andrew James conceded two "soft" second-half goals as Pegasus ended up comprehensibly beaten at Abingdon in the Complete Music Hellenic League Premier Division.

After conceding an early goal, the visitors contributed towards an open game before caving in during the second half.

Pegasus, looking to close the gap on their mid-table opponents to four points, made the worst possible start when they conceded a fifth-minute goal from a free-kick. When the ball was slung across goal from the right, James Blackmore rose above the visitors' defence to head home.

Both sides played open attacking football on a hard pitch but were unable to take advantage of the openings on offer.

Blackmore was always a threat at the set pieces and came close to extending the lead for his side. His header was on target but Mike Symonds was on hand to clear off the line.

The closest Pegasus came to an equaliser was a Daniel Rocke long-range free-kick from near the half-way line. They made a poor start to the second period as James dropped the ball on the edge of the box and Sean Flaherty pounced to lob it into an empty net.

James then felled Mark Harbert inside the penalty area and Flaherty coolly slotted home the resultant penalty to complete the scoring.
