MOTHERS' DAY - Meryl Bedford, from Ross-on-Wye Methodist Church, was the special preacher at the United Reformed Church for Mothering Sunday's service. One or two of the members of the congregation told something about their mother's life of many years previously. Doreen Jones' parents were married in the church in 1924 and later her mother had a stroke that affected her for something like 40 years. But in spite of this, she attended Newent Church for most of the time. Eileen Smith also told of her parents, married in the church in 1930. She brought along some photographs showing this. Eileen was a reader that morning, as was Dorothy Parker, and Doreen Jones was the organist.
