TELEVISION - Knighton made a brief but impressive appearance on prime time television during the first of a new series of ITV's 'Heart of the Country.' Presenter Iolo Williams interviewed Rebe Brick, manager of the Offa's Dyke Centre, against the backdrop of the Offa's Dyke Park and Kinsley Wood; and also antiques dealer Islwyn Watkins. There were some fine views of the town and surrounding countryside. The only criticism was a caption that stated Knighton was in Shropshire, though in the last sequence, filmed on Knighton station just before Mr Williams departed north on the Heart of Wales railway, he made it clear that although the railway station was in England, Knighton itself was definitely in Wales.

MILLENNIUM COMMITTEE - Knighton Town Council's Millennium committee received a statement from the town clerk on the cost of Millennium celebrations. Members heard that a total of £3,288 had been spent to-date on parties for the town's youngsters and senior citizens (£1,162.24), a beacon on Garth Hill on New Year's Eve (£114.76), mugs for children (£2,011). Of this cost, £638 had been covered by donations, which left £2,350 of the £5,000 originally allocated by the council for Millennium celebrations, a picnic area on Bryn-y-Castell. The mayor agreed to find the cost of buying and erecting the equipment and carrying out the necessary excavation and construction of a retaining wall. Trevor Johnson questioned the need for excavation and a retaining wall, and thought the council should give greater priority to the show committee's desire to construct a memorial arch and pathway from Bowling Green Lane.
