Details have emerged of the performances visitors to the Millennium Dome will see on May 22, when Ledbury will represent Herefordshire for one-day in the national showpiece.

David Thomas, of Herefordshire Education Authority, has been called in to help co-ordinate and finalise all the different aspects of Ledbury's big day under the spotlight.

He said: "As we get closer to the day, everyone is getting more excited about this special event."

More than 80 local schoolchildren will take part in performances of a show called Ledbury Lives, which will consist of dance, music and a separate video presentation, to tell the story of the "lives and aspirations of Ledbury residents".

Several performances will be given in the McDonald's Our Town Theatre in the Dome, which offers professional sound and lighting and can seat 500 people at a time.

The theatre is approached through an exhibition space where all the local primary schools in and around Ledbury will be able to display artwork on the theme of Herefordshire life.

As part of this display, a professionally produced video of Herefordshire will be shown, in support of a display from the Herefordshire Tourist Office.

Including the adults, there will be 100 performers in total for the "Ledbury Lives" show.

McDonald's itself has helped to fund the performances with sponsorship of £10,000 for Herefordshire LEA.

The company is also providing transport and accommodation for the 100 performers.

Another highlight of the day will be a performance by Ledbury Community Choir, in another area of the Dome.
