THE annual cider and perry competition at the Cider Museum, Hereford, is going from strength to strength with entries coming from Somerset, Gloucester, Devon and Cornwall competing alongside the Herefordshire ciders.
But next year it is hoped to change the competition rules to allow international entries to be accepted.
Said museum administrator Margaret Thompson: "We could be finding out how ciders from Normandy or further afield measure up to our traditional product." The judges for this year's competition reflect its widening scope.
From Herefordshire there is master cider maker Ivor Dunkerton, whose organic ciders from Pembridge have a winning reputation.
From Somerset is Julian Temperley, who produces Burrow Hill Cider and Somerset Royal Cider Brandy. He is chairman of the South West Cidermakers Association.
There will be five classes. Hereford's mayor, Councillor Colin Rumsey, will present the awards at the museum on Wednesday, May 10.
