SCABBERS the mouse and four-legged friends put staff at the Belmont Veterinary Centre through their paces in preparation for a sponsored walk.

They will embark on a five-and-a-half-mile circular route from Belmont to Lower Breinton on Sunday, May 7, to mark National Pet Week.

The proceeds will be given to the Athene Sanctuary for injured birds and hedgehogs and Hereford Animal Aid.

Owner of the Athene Sanctuary, Beryl Bayliss, will be doing her own fun run in May, to raise funds for a new shed to house the 200 convalescent birds of prey the sanctuary cares for each year. To date, Hereford Animal Aid has rehomed 40 dogs this year.

The walk starts at the surgery car park at 10.30 am and clients are invited to join in or make a donation. A quiz and wordsearch competition available from the surgery are also hoped to raise funds.

Last year, the surgery raised £320 for the RSPCA.
