PREACHER - Newent United Reformed Church had a change of preacher recently when the Rev. Tom Wigley was asked to come to visit the congregation for the last time before his retirement. It was 40 years since he first preached here. He was greeted by the congregation and a presentation was made at the end of the service. His wife Jean was also presented with a large bouquet of flowers. The church will be having another special day on Sunday when the present minister, Rev. David Featonby, will be inducted as the president of the Gloucester district of the United Reformed Church for the next year. The church will also celebrate its 154th anniversary during the morning service at the usual time of 10.30am. The annual district meeting will be held at 2.30pm, followed by tea, and the service of induction will be followed at 6.30pm.
